Compare the resources and constraints you can actually observe. The August Journey spotlight describes a tradeoff between river access and other site resources.
A decision worksheet
For each candidate, note water access, observed food options, buildable space and connection opportunities. Give those criteria your own importance weights. The site selector compares your entries; its score is not an in-game stat.
Before committing
Inspect terrain and the displayed placement feedback in your build. A promotional map or old screenshot cannot establish a valid building radius or a guaranteed location.
Keep the reason with the plan
Name the tradeoff you accept. A site selected for one resource may need imports later; record that dependency before planning a second settlement.
